Hennessey’s, Inc. and WPA present Inaugural SUP and Paddleboard World Championship

Hennessey’s, Inc., and the World Paddle Association (WPA) have teamed up to conduct the first ever SUP and Paddleboard World Championship in 2011. The Hennessey’s WPA World Championship will include both SUP and Paddleboard divisions. The event will be held on September 17, 2011 in San Diego, California at the Catamaran Hotel in Mission Bay

Hennessey’s, the first event series to embrace the fledgling class of SUP in 2008, sees the partnership with the WPA as critical to the progression of the sport.  “We are extremely excited to partner with the World Paddle Association to conduct the first official SUP and Paddle boarding World Championship.”  Said Tim Ritter, race director for Hennessey’s Racing,  “Hennessey’s Racing has conducted paddling events for 16 years… to have the support of an association like the WPA is to help grow the sport of paddling and take [SUP] to the next level.”

Along with the 2011 World Championship, Hennessey’s and the WPA will also conduct the U.S. Paddle Championships, July 9, 2011 at Redondo Beach, California.  This event will be part of the WPA U.S. Regional Race Series, and serve as a qualifying event for the World Championship in September 2011.

The vision of the WPA is to ensure the future of the sport by providing a fun and fair premier paddling experience for paddlers of all levels.  “The partnership with Hennessey’s is a perfect fit for everyone involved,” said WPA co-founder, Scott Sanchez.  “This is going to take the sport of SUP and paddling to the next level.”
