Girls’s Traverse of Lake Starnberg, Germany’s 5th largest lake

Back from the Majorca 25k race,  I was keen to do something special on my first weekend back home in Munich in over a month. The idea was a to do a traverse of Lake Starnberg. 25 kilometers South of Munich and Germany’s 5th largest lake. Out of Bavaria’s 307 lakes, it is the second longest lake after Bodensee (Chiemsee is bigger, but only 13km long). It is also the famous place where King Ludwig II. of Bavaria drowned or died under mysterious circumstances in 1886.

700km frostbite paddle from Graz to Belgrad – the full story

Peter and Abel are back in the civilization – with mixed feelings. Somehow happy to be warm and safe, somehow sad that the adventure is over. The forces were against them, the temperature was constantly below freeze, they saw the sun only once as it was constantly foggy, the rivers had an historically low water level and the strange Hungarian Police also did not help…

News from Peter’s and Abel’s frostbite paddle to the Black Sea

After a few delays, they started their trip last Friday, November 16th, on the custom-shaped boards by Abel (17’ long, 30.5” wide) which were specifically designed to carry the 60kg of luggage. The water level is low as it hasn’t rained for weeks so the trip is slower than expected and yes, it’s cold, -3°C during the day, much colder at night when they camp out in the wilderness close to the river.
