Waveboard are boards for SUP Surfing. We will distinguish them into boards that can be used for flatwater paddling and surfing (Hybrid)  and boards specifically designed for surfing only (SUP Surfboards)

Hybrid Boards (Allround Paddleboard)

Boards above 10 ft can be used for both. They have a rounded shape. They are good for smaller to medium waves and for the first SUP surf attempts. On the bigger days you will want to look into SUP Surfboards. If you want to take your Allround Shape board into the surf, you will need a leash. You typically will also use a shorter paddle length vs. flatwater paddling. The shorter the board, the harder it is to paddle standing up, but the easier it is to control / turn in bigger surf

An example for such a board is the Fanatic FLY Series

SUP Surfboards (Wave Boards)

Those Boards are specifically designed to surf and not suitable to paddle longer distances in Flatwater. They have a more pointed tail and nose vs. the Allround Boards, which makes them easier to turn. They are also shorter, typically under 10″ (except for the “Guns” which are used in very big surf).

Examples would be the Naish Hokua Series or the Fanatic Pro Wave Series
